March 13 2002 (17 weeks and 1 day)
We got our first real peek at him on March 13 through an ultrasound, while I was having an amniocentesis performed. It was very exciting to see him for the first time. He bopped around and looked right at us, and then made it very clear he is a boy. (Make sure to scroll down to see all three ultrasound photos.)
Here is a view of his butt from below. The technician asked if we could see the testicles, which were our first clue to the sex. Of course, I had no idea what I was looking at. Ultrasound photos always look like blobs to me. The testicles are supposed to be to the right of the three exclamation marks. And the exclamation marks are in between his legs (does that help at all??)

OK, on to ultrasound photo number two. He turned and looked right at us, and the technician took this photo of him. We could see his little hand almost waving at us. I've never seen an ultrasound photo with a picture of the face before. It gave me chills.

So then we got to see his adorable little feet for a while, and his head and legs. And then we saw definitive proof he's a boy (for the ultrasound-challenged, look just below the three exclamation points)...drumroll please:

So, here's our baby boy. I'm sure we're already going to have to spring for therapy just for posting naked fetal pictures of him on the Internet. And don't ask about names just yet, please. Patrick and I are having our first real standoff over the baby, and it's over names. Don't worry, we'll keep you posted on the outcome. :)
